TIE Bomber

1:48 scale 3D-printed resin TIE Bomber

We all know that I love Star Wars but did you know that the TIE Bomber is my favorite ship? I’m a huge fan of bomber starfighters and I’ve always been a little bummed that the TIE Bomber never seems to get any love from merch companies. Specifically, I’ve always wanted a Bandai TIE Bomber model but it’s never been released. Luckily, I happened to search for a model and came across Mos Eisley Modelworks on Etsy. I immediately pulled the trigger on the 1:48 TIE Bomber resin model and got to work when it arrived.

I’m very happy with the finished model. I’ve never worked with a resin model before so it was a learning experience. There are things that I would do differently but I think it turned out nice. I should’ve taken more photos of the build. 🤦

Check out some of the build photos below.

Paints & Misc

These are the different paints that I used for the body of the model. They’re roughly in order from the left to right with some minor exceptions. I started with a coat of Mr Surfacer 1500 to expose imperfections then hit it with the MIG one-shot primer (I love this stuff). From there, I hit the wings with Tamiya Nato Black (XF-69) then masked off the solar panels. I randomly covered the entire model in Tamiya Ocean Gray 2 (XF-82) then very lightly spray Tamiya Medium Blue (XF-18) over the top for a darker shade. Next was a coat of Alclad II Gloss Clear to prepare for weathering that I never really did. I decided against heavy weathering but chose to try out my new MIG Shaders and I absolutely love them. I slowly went through each of them starting with the light grey, accenting different panel lines and shadow areas. In the end, I coated everything in MIG Lucky Matt Varnish to tone it down.

I used the above WarPaints on the pilot and cockpit area. The pilot is mostly Nato Black with accents of Uniform Grey and chest electronics hit with Dragon Blue and Crystal Blue. The electronics in the cockpit all got Nato Black and my favorite metallic to use for dry brushing, P3 Pig Iron.

The red pieces are spare Bandai laser blaster bolts from past builds. I cut the ends off of them and used them as the red engine inserts in lieu of LEDs.
